Developing Mathematical Skills Mathematics Study Modules The following ten Mathematics study modules, designed for an individual teacher or group of teachers, have been produced by the mathematics strand of the Key Stage 3 Strategy. They are intended for teachers who would like to reinforce, confirm and extend their knowledge of the Key Stage 3 mathematics curriculum and to develop their teaching skills. They are suitable for all teachers of mathematics in Key Stage 3, including supply teachers, teaching assistants, trainee teachers, and those who would like to return to teaching. The aims of the modules are to: • develop teachers’ understanding of important aspects of the mathematics curriculum in KS3; • strengthen teachers’ planning and teaching of mathematics in Key Stage 3. There is no need to study all the modules unless you want to. Each is designed as a self-contained unit of work. Choose those that most interest you and that will give you the most help. Skills for Life A number of organisations offer the possibility of taking level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy. For those who already have the knowledge and skills, it is possible to take a multiple choice question paper straight away. For those who need some extra support before taking the test there are a number of personalised learning options available from self-directed learning to small group study. The Skills for Life Team at Suffolk County Council offer a range of options and their contact details are given below. However it is also possible to access support at local colleges and through Learn Direct Centres. Northern
