Pupil Tracking and Exam Analysis

Tracking pupil progress can provide invaluable information to a school and as a result enable Teachers, Heads of Department, Heads of Year, Senior Leadership Teams and Headteachers to most appropriately target support and resources.  The problem can be that data is inaccessible or that members of staff do not have the computer skills necessary to manipulate the data into a useable form.  The accompanying spreadsheet is designed to track progress from Year 7 through to Year 11 on a single spreadsheet. [Instructions will be added soon]

Tracking Pupil Progress

Simple Tracking using red, amber, green assessment
This spreadsheet provides an easy way of tracking pupil progress based upon the National Curriculum Level they are working at.  The spreadsheet covers levels 3 to 8 and entails entering a r for not achieved, a for partially achieved or a g for achieved.  The results are then summarised - Click here
The objectives are also available as a word document for pupil self assessment or teacher assessment - Click here

Exam Analysis

OCR J512 Jun 2009 - Click here (Charlie Dawson) The first sheet is just a sheet to enter pupil data, which I then copy into the next few sheets. The next 4 sheets are there for teachers to enter in the marks each pupil gets per question. The cells turn green, yellow or red depending on the percentage. The last 5 columns give the totals for number, algebra, shape and space, handling data and the grand total. The colours make it very easy to see what went well and what would be good to focus on.

It is the last four sheets that we find most useful. We print these off blank and give them to the pupils to record their marks for each question in the blank cell (the number beside that is the total for that question). The pupils can then add up the totals and see where their strengths lie and where they have areas for improvement. Some of us have then had the pupils select some topics that they want help on and allocate some MyMaths tasks for that purpose. Having the pupils record their marks has certainly helped them take greater responsibility for their learning and target setting. This spreadsheet was put together for the 2009 OCR November modular exam

These spreadsheets allow you to enter the topics for any exam and then the individual marks for each question for each pupil and then provides a summary of the class results as well as the option to printout a summary for each pupil allowing them to target their areas of weaknesses.  This can be used following any exam.
